My Friends Bread

Posted on July 22nd, 2020 by Matthew

Project Brief

This is a collage project for our course in After Effects & Premier Pro. We had to come up with our very own story line, shoot the video and edit it in After Effects & Premier Pro.

The Process

The story line is about two stoners who owe their drug dealer money. The film was shot with a basic camcorder and I edited it in Premier Pro. I created the motion graphics in the intro & ending using After Effects. The ending was quiet fun getting the animation of the sound wave to synchronize with the beat of the music and then animating the camera view.

Deep Waters

Posted on July 22nd, 2020 by Matthew

Project Brief

While working for the charity organisation The Wellspring Community I was responsible for managing a team as well as their social media for an event called Deep Waters. This included managing their YouTube channel, Facebook and Instagram Page. This event occurred once a week and the target audience was aimed towards young adults & students between the ages of 18-25 of a local church community. Deep Waters needed material designed to advertise their latest events and speakers that were happening across the year.

The Process

I designed all their social media content using Photoshop. When advertising for the events hosted at Deep Waters I kept the branding consistent which included the font style, logo and kept to neutral colors. They also had events that happened once a year which were more specific. This meant that I could re brand events such as the Taize event which I used the color orange. The material was then used on their Instagram and Facebook pages. All the photography, video editing and design on their YouTube channel was done by myself.

The Prodigal Sons Logo

Project Brief

The Prodigal sons is a spiritual men’s group that required a logo for their new mission. The logo was to reflect the sense of journeying together and overcoming obstacles.

Process

Initial process began with drawing up sketches on paper of mountains, pathways and other images that I thought could portray the sense of journeying. I ended up creating a contrast between the image of a mountain up against the image of two individuals. The mountain is much bigger which is to represent the challenge of one facing an obstacle. Having two young men in the picture represents the sense of journeying together.

DVD Case

Posted on July 2nd, 2020 by Matthew

Project Brief

A college project that involved designing a DVD cover, flash interface and a poster that would be used to showcase the work of all the students in my college, Concept Interactive, for the year 2011.

The Process

I began with brainstorming ideas on Photoshop by creating a creative mess of shapes, circles, triangles and rectangles. I designed the year 2011 out of little orange triangles and used them again to make wavy patterns to communicate movement. The objective of this project was to create a look and feel that felt and looked creative to relate to the purpose of the DVD.

CHRISTINE WEIR ALBUM COVER

Posted on July 2nd, 2020 by Matthew

Project Brief

Vocalist Christine Weir needed an album cover design for her new album Invsion. She wanted the design to reflect the theme of her songs which all had a Scottish ancestral background. She wanted elements of space and magic to be incorporated into the design to give it a mythical look and feel.

Process

Working with the brief I collected a collage of images of planets, stars, the milky way, a unicorn and an image of a Pict popular in Scottish culture to recreate the look and feel of magic, space and mystery. I layered, cropped and blended these images together. I also played around with the coloring of blues, reds and purples to add more to the feeling of magic. The use of this font for the typography and the particles I created with the brush tool was to add to the Celtic and mythical look and feel.

Quest Quantity Surveyors

Posted on March 8th, 2020 by Matthew

Project Brief

Quest Quantity Surveyors is a construction surveying company. My client required a new website to showcase a collection of their latest client based projects. The design was to be based on their current corporate brand identity with a simple approach to the layout and design.

Process

The website was designed in Photoshop. A challenge I faced was synchronizing two separate navigation’s that would show the user which project they were viewing. There is a navigation in the header and one in a left sidebar. I included two navigation’s because it made it easier for the user to navigate through the projects and not feel lost. It was important to go for a clean layout as each project had a variety of information to display.

About Me

Posted on March 8th, 2020 by Matthew

A self-motivated front-end developer and designer from Cape Town South Africa living in Brighton England.

The world of web building gives me a certain curiosity I am constantly trying to feed. As browser compatibility improves and new frameworks develop there is always something new to learn. I pride myself in writing clean code and consider myself to be a Jedi master at HTML5 and CSS3. I have a good understanding of JavaScript logic but in time I aim to master this language along with related frameworks like angular.

In 2011 I graduated with a National Diploma in Interactive Graphics (Desktop Publishing & Multimedia) at Concept Interactive. It was here I was introduced to the exciting world of web design and development. Since then I have built and designed websites for two agency’s: Eiledon Solutions and String Communication giving me 2 years of industry experience. I have also freelanced as a designer and developer building websites,
designing logos, banners and produced videos for various clients.

When I am not designing or developing websites you likely to catch me lifting weights like a beast, reading books or exploring
the outdoors like a true adventurer.
